Namibe Bay Development Project Completed

Namibe Bay Development Project Completed

We are very proud to announce the completion on 10 October of the Namibe Bay Development Project.

Following the completion on 25 June of Package 1 — relating to the Sacomar Mineral Terminal — we announce the completion of Package 2, relating to the expansion of the Namibe Port Container Terminal.

This second part included the execution of the upper and lower rockfill prisms, from elevation -33.00 m to +3.50 m, totalling 36.5 m in height and constituting the containment dike for the landfill area, which allowed for the construction of the container park and port pavements covering approximately 45,000 m² where RTG (Rubber Tyred Gantry) cranes operate.

A reinforced concrete quay 322 m long and 27 m wide was also built, equipped with fenders, mooring bollards and rails for STS (Ship to Shore) cranes, supported by a constellation of 224 metal piles with a diameter of 1.10 m.

Among the complementary infrastructure, several buildings were constructed, notably the MV and LV electrical substations, the drinking water and fire water reservoirs, and the VTS (Vessel Traffic Service) Navigation Tower equipped with radars, cameras, AIS antennas and VHF communications for maritime traffic control.

In the port access area, covering a total area of approximately 12,000 m², a new entrance was built with various facilities, such as the General Administration Building, weighbridges, gates and X-ray areas.

With this contract completed, we are making a further contribution to the consolidation of Angola as an important maritime and logistics hub and a centre linking maritime and land transport, which contributes decisively to sustainable economic growth and regional development.
